THIS IS THE REAL BURIAL LOCATION OF THE INFANT GEORGE W. STILL.

Someone else has a memorial on him at the cemetery in Kansas where his mother is buried (23643931). But, he is NOT buried there. That one is a cenotaph (memorial stone).

His mother is buried in Baldwin City Cemetery in Douglas County, Kansas, and her tombstone lists all of her children, but this does not mean all of her children are buried by her. Infant son George W. Still died while the family was living in Macon County, Missouri, and he is buried in the Still Cemetery in Macon County, Missouri.

This writer personally viewed his tombstone in 1973 (before the days of digital cameras). At that time I was searching for my own relatives, and unfortunately did not photograph this stone. But, I did record information from the stones. This cemetery is almost impossible to get to now.

The tombstone for this infant reads, "George W. son of A. T. and M. M. Still." This is Dr. Andrew Taylor Still and first wife Mary Margaret (Vaughn). This is one of four children whom this couple had who died young. Only one of their children lived to adulthood. It has been said that largely because of the death of several of his children, his first wife, and other relatives, from which he could not save them with traditional medical practices of the day, that he searched for other ways to heal and developed the alternative of osteopathic medicine. Dr. Andrew Taylor Still is the famous founder of Osteopathy.

It is sad that this child of a famous man lies in a forgotten, overgrown, inaccessible cemetery named after his own family. The property on which this cemetery is located, was once the farm of the Still family, reportedly first that of Andrew's father Abraham Still and later Andrew himself.

Mary Margaret (Vaughn) Still's sister, Francis Ann (Vaughn) also lived on this property with her second husband Col. George Edwards, Sr.

When the farm house on this property was demolished in the 1990s, it was discovered that the house had been built over an original log home, believed to have dated back to the Stills.

Infant George Still's four full siblings were:

1. F. Marusha Hale Still 1849-1924 (only child who lived to adulthood)
2. Abraham Price Still 1852-1863 (died at age 10 years and 2 months)
3. Susan B. Still 1856-1864 (died at age 7 years and 10 months)
4. Lorenzo Waugh Still 1859-1859 (died at age 6 days)

Infant George's mother died in 1859. His father remarried to Mary Elvira (Turner) and they had 7 children which would be half-siblings to infant George:

1. Dudley Turner Still 1861-1961 (age 6 weeks)
2. Maracia Ione Still 1863-1864 (age 1 year)
3. Charles Edward Still 1865-1955
4. Harry Mix Still 1867-1942 (twin)
5. Herman Taylor Still 1867-1941 (twin)
6. Frederick "Fred" Still 1874-1894 (age 20 years)
7. Blanche (Still) Laughlin 1876-1956

Dr. Still and his second wife lived in Kirksville, Adair County, Missouri, where Dr. Still established his medical school and hospital.
