Ray was born January 13, 1910, in Independence, the fourth of eight children, to Theodore and Cora (Brace) Gerber. Mr Gerber was an active member and ordained Elder in the Community of Christ Church. He sang along with his wife, Polly, in the Messiah Choir and played the violin for church services as well. Mr Gerber was a volunteer later in life at the Community of Christ Temple and community service organizations. At the age of 88, Ray traveled to Honduras for a medical mission trip to remodel a health clinic.
Mr Gerber is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Peggy Gerber; daugter and son-in-law, Jean and David Livingston; grandchildren, Gina and Steve Brumfield, Kent and Kristy LIvingston, and Leigh and Dale Turner, and great-grandchildren, Timothy and Frank Brumfield Jr., Haleigh and Stevie Livingston, Clara, Allyson and Lauren Turner. Ray was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Polly Gerber, in 1995, three brothers and four sisters.
Graveside services will be 10:30 am Saturday, June 3, at Mound Grove Cemetery, Independence. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Outreach International. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.speakschapel.com.
