Sallie Willard Sims, who never married, was the daughter of William R. & Mary "Pollie" (Gay) Sims. Both of her parents were born in KY, and moved to Boone Co, MO at some point in time. From there they moved to Audrain Co, MO sometime before January 1840 when their first child was born.

In July 1860 Sallie, age 3, lived with her family in Salt River Township in Audrain Co, MO. Her father, age 50, was a successful farmer who had considerable wealth for that time. He owned real estate valued at over $12,000.

Sallie's siblings were: Irvin James, John, Mary Belle, Martha Ann, Benjamin Oris, William Gay, & Dunlap Edmund.

Sallie's father died on March 28, 1865, when she was about 8 years old. Almost two months later, her sister, Mary Belle, married.

By July 1870 the family was doing well. The farm's value had increased to $18,000. Sallie, age 13, was attending school, and her brothers, Irvin, Ben, William, & Dunlap were helping with the farm work.

In June 1880, Sallie, age 23, & her mother were the only two living on the farm. Her mother died on June 7, 1887.

In June 1900, Sallie, age 43, lived with her sister, Mary Belle Beagles, in Mexico, MO. This was Mary's third marriage, but her husband, James, lived elsewhere in town.

Sallie & her sister were still living together in January 1920. Sallie was 63 years old, & Mary Belle was 74. Mary Belle's 31 year old grandson, Ray Gregory, lived with them & worked as a grocery clerk. Mary Belle died on August 3, 1920.

Sometime later, Sallie went to live her nephew, Fletcher Sims, & his family. Fletcher was the son of Sallie's brother, William Gay. In April 1930, they lived in Nine Mile Prairie Township in Callaway Co, MO. Sallie was 75 years old.

Sallie died in Calwood, Callaway Co, MO from a stroke "Apoplexy" on April 10, 1935. She had lived 79 years & 4 months. Her nephew, Fletcher, whose residence was shown as Mexico, Mo, was the informant on her death certificate. She was buried in Mexico, MO on April 14.

Her name is shown as Sallie E. Sims on her death certificate, which indicates that she was born on May 11, 1856. This year is in agreement with most of the Federal Census records. However, the inscription on her tombstone indicates her birth was in 1854. Her parents were shown as W.R. Sims & Polly Gay, both born in KY.
