William was the son of William R. & Sarah "Sally" (Barnes) Sims (both buried in Boone Co, MO). William and his father's middle name may have been Roland as shown by researchers on Ancestry

His siblings were: Elizabeth, Elias W., Rebecca, Lucretia, James R., Tarleton, Nancy, Sarah Ann, Irvin, & John.

William married Mary "Pollie" Martha Gay in the Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Boone Co, MO on October 24, 1838.

They moved to Audrain County, MO where their son, Irvin James, was born on January 4, 1840. He was followed by John F. (March 21, 1843), Mary Belle (August 10, 1845), Martha Ann (1847), Benjamin Oris March 17, 1848), William Gay (July 22, 1850), Dunlap Edmund (December 18, 1852), & Sallie Willard.

The obituary of William's son, John, indicates that William was known as "Buffalo Bill Sims."

On August 22, 1850, William's farm was valued at $2,000. He was 38 years old, & Mary was 31. Their six children ranged in ages 10 to 2 months.

In July 1860 the family were shown as living in Salt River Township. William, age 50, had done well during the last 10 years. His farm was valued at $12,000, a considerable amount in those days, with personal wealth of $7,850. All of their children still lived at home with the exception of Mary Ann who had married John Vernon Pearson on December 9, 1857. She & two of their three children died in 1865.

William died in 1865 on March 28. Mary died 22 years later on June 7, 1887. A large impressive tombstone stands in honor of their memory. The birth and death of their daughter, Sallie, is also inscribed on their stone.

"The closest Roland in the family history in any form was my GGGandmother introduced by way of marriage of her daughter to William Taylor Sims in 1883. However the family documents does afford a more accurate name, a derivative of his Grandfather and his fathers middle name, "Randall".

After twenty years of Ancestry corrections, I'm still in amazement of the propagation of "it could be" without a shred of support."
