Agnes Elizabeth Sample Brown Sweitzer was born in Iowa, USA, the daughter of George Thomas Sample (1846-1933, born in Pickaway County, Ohio, USA) and Jane Burns (1836-1905, born in Ayrshire, Scotland). Agnes married twice and had one child.

She married 1. Asa Summers Brown on 25 December 1897 in Davis County, Iowa, USA.
Asa Summers was the father of her child Asa Ray Brown (1899-1969). Agnes and Asa were not married long. By 1900, they were living separately, with Agnes listed as "widowed" (while living with her parents and her son) and Asa listed as "single" in the 1900 census. Asa remarried in 1903.

Agnes's mother died in 1905. Agnes continued to live with her father and her son. In the 1910s, they moved from Iowa to Laclede County, Missouri. By 1930, Agnes and her father were living as lodgers in a home with her future husband Leonard Sweitzer. After her father's death in 1933, Agnes married 2. Leonard Sweitzer. She died in 1955 and he died in 1959. They are both buried in Antioch Cemetery in Laclede County, Missouri.
