Armstrong - Services for Heilmer Beenken, 62, Armstrong, will be at the Nazarath Lutheran Church, Armstrong, with the Rev. Donohue Sarff officiating.
Interment will be in Armstrong Grove Cemetery with military services.
Mr. Beenken died Sunday at Veterans Hospital, Minneapolis, Minn.
Mr. Beenken was born Oct. 28, 1914, at Lakota, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Beenken. He received his education in rural Kossuth County schools and farmed his entire life. He was a veteran of World War II.
He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Raymond (Elizabeth) Edwards, Armstrong; two brothers, Heiko Beenken, Webb; and Eugene Beenken, Albert Lea, Minn.; one half brother, Hans Beenken,Britt; and one half sister, Mrs. Hattie Ubben, Buffalo Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister, and four half brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 22, 1977)
Helmer had brown hair an eyes and was 5' 8" tall. He was a machine gunner in Battery A 957th FA BN. He served in Normandy, Northern France, Adrennes, Rhineland, Central Europe receiving the European-African Middle Eastern Theater ribbon with 1 silver battle star, 3 overseas service ribbons, 1 service stripe and a good conduct medal. He was also in the CCC during his early years.
He died March 20, 1977 at age 62 years, 4 Mos and 22 days. He was in the Veteran's hospital and died of an aneurysm. he is buried in Armstrong Grove Cemetery, Armstrong IA in the Harold Vidgal plot.
