James R. "Bob" Hamlin, 63, of Amarillo, laid down his robe of flesh at 3:30pm Wednesday, June 16, 2010. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Mr. Hamlin was born November 29, 1946, in Shattuck, Oklahoma to James Leroy and Esther V. (Kraft) Hamlin. He was raised in Shattuck for 10 years before moving to the city of Amarillo with his family. Bob attended Amarillo schools, graduating from Caprock High in 1965. He then worked and went to college at West Texas State in Canyon for 2 ½ years, working on a degree in business.
Bob was big on volunteering. He held many positions with United Way of Amarillo-Canyon from 1991 to 1993; HOST mentor in Amarillo ISD from 1991 to 1998; HOST mentor Volunteer of the Year award 1992; The Bridge Children's Advocacy Center 1994-1999; Maverick Boy's and Girl's Club board member 2006; United Way Alumni Committee 2006-2008; and Day of Caring Leader United Way Amarillo-Canyon.
Bob loved the Lord and was serving Him as an active member of Temple Baptist Church when he was called home. He was always ready to minister to others.
Bob was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Denise Roebuck, and by his parents, James and Esther Hamlin. Survivors include his daughter Misti, son Erik, sister Betty Rannels, and three priceless grandchildren Drew, Elijah, and Caddence.
A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 2:00pm at Temple Baptist Church 3208 S. Van Buren in Amarillo.
