Benjamin was the fifth son of David Stout and Rebecca Ashton. His Grandparents were Richard and Penelope VanPrincis Stout the original settlers in Middleton, Monmouth County, New Jersey.

He was married at seventeen years old to the widow Ketcham (who had children older than he was) and settled in Amwell Tsp, with whom he appeared to live very happy a number of years without issue. After her death he married Mary Higgins, daughter of Jediah Higgins, by whom he had nine children, viz: Elihu, Hannah and Rebecca, all died under twelve years old, with dysentery. They then had Jediah 1757-1837 (Mary Stout), Rachel 1760-1820 (Paul Hill), Benjamin Higgins 1762-1822(Rachel Stout), Sarah 1764-1806 1st wife (Elijah 'RW' Stout, Anne 1766-1842 2nd Wife (Elijah 'RW' Stout) and David 1769-1806 (Elizabeth Stout). Source: "History of the Stout Family" Nathan Stout, 1823 and "Pioneers of Old Hopewell" by Ralph Ege 1908. See linage of spouses below.

He was a Farmer - It is recorded that at the age of 44 he owned property in Fayette County, KY that he left to his eldest son Jediah. Brothers Jediah and Benjamin Higgins were married to sisters, the daughters of Abraham and Elizabeth Houghton Stout. Elijah 'RW' was the son of James Stout and Mary Mattison Stout. He married sisters. David's wife Elizabeth was the daughter of James Turler Stout and Catherine Stout daughter of John Stout and Rachel Merrill.

Many of the Stout family are buried in this cemetery and Stout-Manners Cemetery in Ringoes, Hunterdon Co., NJ
All are related in some manner to the 10 children of the Pioneers Richard and Penelope VanPrincis Stout who landed and settled Gravesend, Long Island in 1643 and then Middletown Tsp, Monmouth County, NJ.
