Douglas M. Varmette, 61, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004, quietly at his home.

Born Jan. 23, 1943, in Fort Edward, NY. He was the son of Aaron and Phoebe (Jangrow) Varmette.

He was a veteran of the Army National Guard.

Doug was a loving and caring father and grandfather. He enjoyed watching NASCAR races and was a big fan of Dale Earnhardt Sr. His other hobbies included talking on his amateur radio, gazing at the stars though his telescope and spending time with his family.

Doug retired from General Electric after 35 years of service.

Survivors include his children, Kevin Varmette and his wife, Tammy, of South Glens Falls, Kenneth Varmette and his wife, Windy, of Michigan, and Barbara Potvin and her husband, Rick, of South Glens Falls; his grandchildren, Damien Varmette of Minnesota, Aaron Varmette of Michigan and Julia Potvin and Cassandra Potvin, both of South Glens Falls; his brother, Thomas Varmette and his fiancée, Sherry McCormick, of South Glens Falls; his sister, Shirley Varmette of New Haven, CT and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery.
