Mary was the daughter of Noah and Alice Mae (French) Conner. She graduated from Fanshawe High School and Eastern Oklahoma State College. She married Joe Barrick in 1961. She moved to California and taught school for several years. She attended nursing school and worked as an RN. She opened and owned and operated a dance studio in California before returning to Oklahoma in 1972. She worked as a bookkeeper and manager at Browning Furniture and then Riedt Furniture before retiring. She enjoyed gardening and yard work and won the Les Bagget award for lawn care. She enjoyed making costumes for her dance studio and her daughter's dance studio. Survivors include a daughter, Jodie Barrick, of McAlester; a son-in-law, Chris Strang, of McAlester; grandson, Christian Dowell, of California; sister-in-law, Wanda Conner, of Wister, and numerous other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Noah and Alice Conner; her husband, Joe Barrick (one week prior); a son, Ralph Dowell, and a brother, Charles Conner. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Fanshawe Cemetery with Greg McGowen officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Strang and Marty Duncan.
