Son of Charles Shearer & Celia (Miller) Apt, he married (1) Jessie R. Bryan. He married (2) Merle (Allison) Hixson, widow of Roy W. Hixson. He was the Henderson County Superintendent of Schools for 28 years, a member of the Masonic Lodge and past president of the West Illinois Education Association. Survivors include a son and a daughter, a step-daughter, 3 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Clarissa Mae Painter of Burlington, IA. He was preceded in death by his two wives and two children. Burial will be in Terre Haute Cemetery, IL
