Bruce was the eldest child of Shirley Bluhm Frantz and his wife Vera Stanley, and grew up on a small farm near St. Clair, St. Clair County, Michigan. He was a graduate of St. Clair High School. On May 16, 1959, he married Wilma Joy Johns in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Bruce sailed on the Great Lakes as a merchant marine sailor and served in the U. S. Air Force, stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. Returning to St. Clair County, Michigan, he was employed by DTE Energy.
Bruce loved the American West and the cowboy culture. He and Joy and their five children relocated to Farmington, New Mexico, where he was employed by Arizona Power and Light at the Four Corners Power Plant.
Bruce was a Christian believer and was baptized at Fellowship Baptist Church in Marine City, Michigan. He was easy going and generous, and his death following surgery was unexpected.
Bruce's funeral was held at Cope Memorial Chapel with Pastor Gary Glenney, officiating. He was survived by his wife Joy, sons Bruce and Sam, daughters Michelle, Rebecca and Cassandra, and many grandchildren.
