Officer Meyer served with the Louisville Division of Police from 1955 until his on-duty death.

He confronted several armed individuals at Bardstown Road and I-264 after they had robbed a local grocery store. He was fatally wounded during a shoot out with them. All suspects were arrested, convicted and sent to prison.

Officer Meyer worked in the Traffic Bureau. He is survived by a wife and several children.
