Upchurch Rites Held In Lexington Today

Funeral services were held this afternoon at the First Methodist Church in Lexington for W. L. Upchurch, well known citizen of Holmes county, who passed away suddenly at the Community Hospital early Tuesday morning.

Mr. Upchurch, 49, was a veteran of World War 1 and was decorated for overseas service. He wore the Purple Heart for wounds received in service. He had made his home in Lexington for the past 17 years where he ran a barber shop on the Square.

The Rev. A. Y. Brown, Methodist pastor, was in charge of the service. Mr. Upchurch was a member of the Methodist Church and the American Legion. He was a native of Humphreys county.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Edna Adams Upchurch, four sons, three of whom are in service: Sgt. W. L. Upchurch, Jr., stationed at Randolph Field, Texas; Capt. Harold
Upchurch, USA, Camp Crowder, Mo.; Pvt. C. E. (Sparkey) Upchurch, Panama; Billy Adams Upchurch, Lexington; two daughters, Mrs. George S. Marks, Jr., Tchula, and Miss Martha Julia Upchurch, Lexington. One grandson, W. L. (Buddy) Upchurch, also survives and one brother, M. J. Upchurch, of Crystal Springs, and three sisters, Miss Mallie Pearl Upchurch Jackson; Mrs. J. W. Cartwright, Indianola; Mrs. Flush Allen, Ocean Springs.

Interment was in Lexington cemetery with Southern Undertaking Association conducting.
