ROYAL H. BARNEY PASSES AWAY AT HOME MONDAY

Funeral Services Held in the AnnabeIIa Ward Chapel Wednesday.


Royal H. Barney, a well known resident of Annabella who died at his home there Monday, were held Wednesday afternoon in the Annabella ward chapel, with Ammon Roberts of the ward bishopric in charge.


Music was furnished by the ward choir, with Mrs. Kenneth Hawley at the piano. Mrs. A. B. Robinson sang "Lay My Head Beneath a Rose," Mrs. Charles Jackman and Miss Virginia Hansen playing the piano and violin accompaniment. W. S. Daniels sang "Face to Face."


Speakers were John Nordfords of the South Sevier stake presidency; G. A. staples representing the Sevier county commissioners; Paul Cox, a relative of Mr. Barney from Cedar City and Cyril D. Brown who read an autobiography of Mr. Barney. A poem written by Mrs. Violet Anderson of Richfield was read by Verdell Rigby of Delta. Resolutions of re from the Otter Creek Reservoir company, written by Lewis W. Jones, president, were read by Larell Nebeker.


The invocation was by Patriarch H. J. Hansen of the Sevier stake; the benediction, by Bliss Daniels. Interment was in the Annabella cemetery. Moroni Rigby dedicated the grave. Relatives from Salt Lake Cedar City and Delta as well as relatives and friends from all parts of Sevier county attended the services.


Mrs. Barney's death was caused by a heart stroke. His health had been poor for some time and he was critically ill a few days before he passed away.


He was born in Pine Valley, Utah October 28, 1879, a son of Royal Hyrum and Martha Jacobsen Barney.


The family moved to Annabella more than 50 years ago and have resided there since.


Royal H. Barney was one of the outstanding characters of Sevier county. He served as a member of the Otter Creek reservoir board, and was bailiff for six years under Sheriff Abbott; he was active in getting Annabella incorporated as a town, and served as a member of the town board, later becoming town president for two terms. He was an active church worker, being ward clerk for 24 years, and a high councilman of the South Sevier stake for three years; he also held other offices in the church and filled two missions. He labored as conference president in Wisconsin while on his first mission and later filled a six months mission to the western states.


Mr. Barney Is survived by his widow, Mrs. Alice Whitehead Barney; seven children, Mrs. Leland Michelsen, Elverda, Erma, Glen, Edson and Opal, all of Annabella, and Mrs. Clair Hansen of Richfield; also three grandchildren; four brothers, James H., Wilford and Eugene Barney of Annabella, and Leonard Barney of Salt Lake City; one sister Mrs. Arnold case of Annabella.
