When Peter Erasmus Kuykendall was born on August 3, 1846, in Jackson, Tennessee, his father, Peter E., was 40 and his mother, Prudence Terry, was 35.

He married Mary A. Hunt on 14 Jun 1865 and they had two children together between 1871 and 1876. Her grave has not been located.

He then married Ginsyann E. Gammon on 23 Jul 1875 and they had nine children together.

On August 11, 1890, Peter E. Kuykendall was appointed the 2nd U. S. Postmaster, Hayden/Cow Prairie, Van Zandt County, Texas.

He died on September 21, 1897, in Van Zandt, Texas, at the age of 51, and was buried at Myrtle Springs, Van Zandt County, Texas.
