Eva was born in Sheffield, Franklin County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Albert Ransom Button, a Baptist minister and Abbie Florina Bush Button. She was brought up in a Christian home. She married Clarence John Doty on 1 Nov 1904. They homesteaded on the South Dakota prairie living in a sod house. They endured all the hardships of a pioneer family with the terrible snows and winds of the prairie. They adopted a child, Helen Marie Jackson, about 1908. She became known as Helen Lucile Doty. Eva was a homemaker, 4-H leader and wonderful parent teaching her daughter to keep house, do home canning, sewing and do crafts. She was a soft spoken, caring person.
