Mrs. Kitchens was the daughter of the late Andrew Lee Johnson and the late Mary Lizzie Wood Johnson; and she was the wife of the late Horace Gilbert Kitchens. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Elizabeth Kitchens and Ethel Irene Godfrey; her sisters, Bessie Johnson, Florabell McCoy, Mary Etta Brantley, Lizzie Mae Kitchens; and her brothers, Erbie Lee Johnson, Herbert Johnson and Oliver Johnson. She was a homemaker and a former seamstress for Royal Manufacturing Company. Mrs. Kitchens was one of the oldest members of the Oconee Church of God and the Ladies Auxiliary. In the beginning stages of building the church she was one of the pioneer ladies who cooked meals and helped carry the blocks during the original construction of the church. Her love for her church spans back over many, many years.
Survivors are: two daughters, Mary Helen Cox of LaGrange and Glenda Kay (Thomas) Story of Sandersville; six grandchildren, Noel Godfrey, Gilbert Story, David Story, Loretta Story, Cathy Hunt and Pam Galloway; and eight great-grandchildren, Allen Story, Ashley Story, Candace Story, Emmaline Godfrey, Reilly Godfrey, Evan Kidd, Makaile Hunt and Kerrie Smith.
