Billie Jo Poppell, 64, of Crescent, GA, died Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at SEGHS Brunswick Campus. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Darien Church of God with Rev. Tommy Whaley officiating. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery in Wayne County with Wayne Johnson, Jeffrey Poppell, Larry Taylor, Mack Hursey, Carson Poppell, Joseph Trutt, Carl Poppell Jr. and Robert Poppell Sr. will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Boone, Bubba Hodge, Edward Deal, SICU Staff of SEGHS Brunswick Campus, Dr. Chester Messick, Dr. Osta and Staff, and Dr. Bowen.
Born September 29, 1945 in Glynn County Georgia to the late William and Irene Sylvester. Mrs. Poppell was a homemaker and a member of Darien Church of God and was a former Sunday School teacher there. She enjoyed Bible study, embroidering and crochet, and especially her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Poppell was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Thorne.
Survivors include her husband, Samuel Poppell of Crescent, six children, Cliff Howard and wife Candy of Atkinson, Ronnie Howard and wife Denise of Darien, Patrick Howard of Townsend, Angie Goodman and husband Robert of Darien, Britt Poppell and wife Lynda of North Carolina and Juanita Young and husband Jeff of Kingsport, TN, twelve grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one brother, David Sylvester and wife Deanna of Blyth Island, three sisters, Delores Martin and husband Quinton of Jesup, Janice Courson of Atlanta and Tiny Rooks and husband Lester of Ft. Pierce, FL.
