"James Alburn, of Co. D, enrolled [72nd IN] Dec. 7, 1863 in Lafayette by Capt. Parks as a Private; mustered in Dec. 23, 1863 in Indianapolis by Lt. Melbourne at age 26. He was 6’ 0” tall, dark complexion, hazel eyes, and black hair. Born Apr. 9, 1836, in Tippecanoe Co., IN, employed as a farmer, married to Hannah J. Patterson. Mustered out at the end of the way Sep. 14, 1865 in Chattanooga, TN. Notes: A Private from 72nd IN Co. C before consolidating into 44th IN Jul. 1, 1865. Resident of Buckcreek, Tippecanoe, Co., IN. James Allburn, also indexed as James Allbum, filed Invalid Pension Application to receive Pension Certificate #451143 Nov. 21, 1888, in IN. Died May 16, 1903 in Battle Ground, Tippecanoe Co., IN; buried there in Battle Ground Cemetery, Sec AL/Row 2 as Allburn. Hannah J. filed Widow’s Pension Application to receive Widow’s Pension Certificate #557523 May 27, 1903 in IN."
