Sanford M. Welton Sr., 64, of Decatur died 11 p.m. Monday (April 9, 2001) in his home.

Services will be 7:30 p.m. Friday in Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home with visitation two hours before services. Burial will be in Philos Cemetery, Westernport, Md. Memorials: DMH Home Health and Hospice Services.

Mr. Welton was born March 8, 1937, in Cumberland, Md., the son of Wright M. and Harriet J. Wierer Welton. He was a quality control supervisor at PPG. He attended Yale University for two years. He also spoke fluent Chinese. He was an Air Force veteran.

Surviving are his son, Sanford Welton Jr. and wife Penny of Decatur; daughter, Adair Welton Ward and husband Peter of Springfield; sisters, Adair Markby and husband Harry of Cumberland, Md.; Ruth Taber and husband Willard of LaVale, Md.; brother, Wright Welton and wife Norma Jean of Kiefer, Md.; grandchildren, Kristina, Jacquelyn, Jonathan and Jeffrey.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a great-nephew.

The family would like to thank Michelle, Vicki, Laynie, Sundi and Sandy for the loving care they provided for our father and grandfather. It is greatly appreciated.
