The daughter of Clarence Kenneth and Nellie Blanche (Turner) Moddrell, she was born November 5, 1928 in Loeffler, Mo. On May 16, 1946 in Green City she married William Joe De Vries, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters; Francie De Vries and Jo Lynn Neely, both of Green City, three grandchildren: Michelle Pickett, Heather Jaques, and Martin Neely; seven great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son Martin De Vries on June 27, 1947; one brother Laverne Moddrell on February 2, 1987; and a son-in-law, Kenneth Neely on August 16, 2007.
Mrs. De Vries was raised in Green City and graduated from Green City High School in 1946. She had been employed with McGraw-Edison and Kirksville Osteopathic Hospital in Kirksville, and Young's Cafe and Green City Food Market in Green City. She was a member and current President of the American Legion Auxiliary in Green City and an Elder of the Green City Presbyterian Church.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday May 6, 2010 in the Glen E. Kent & Son Funeral Home in Green City with the Rev. J. Michael Davis, Rev. Carolyn Stephenson and Rolf Christen officiating.
Music will be provided by Jack Smith; soloist, and Phyllis Jobe, pianist.
Burial will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Casket Bearers will be Darin Jaques, Martin Neely, John Jobe, John Payne, Randy Kincanon, and Bill Casper.
