Joseph Theodore Trotter, 79, of Anchorage died from complications of ALS and pulmonary fibrosis on May 25, 2009, at Alaska Regional Hospital while surrounded by his family. A celebration of Joseph's life took place with a visitation at Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel, 440 E. Klatt Road, off Old Seward Highway and Klatt Road. A gathering to remember Joseph was held afterward at the home of Jeff and Tami Trotter.

Joseph was born April 15, 1930, in Indiana. He worked for Arco inspecting boilers and pressure vessels in Illinois and Indiana for 30 years before being transferred to Alaska in 1985. Joseph retired from Arco in 1991 and then worked for the State of Alaska until he retired in 1997. Joseph's family wrote that he was an unbelievably caring person who dearly loved his wife of 54 years, Isabelle, and his children and grandchildren. He will be remembered for his incredible work ethic and his love of Civil War history. "Dad didn't leave us," they wrote. "He will be with us at all times. He just wanted a better seat to watch over all of us so he could see us every day."

Joseph is survived by his wife, Isabelle; his daughter, Laura Mungovan and her husband Dan of Illinois; his daughter, Cheryl Talley and her husband Terry of Illinois; his daughter, Jennifer Smith and her husband Jason of Anchorage; and his son, Jeff Trotter and his wife Tami of Anchorage. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert, and daughter, Christine. Visit the online memorial at legacy.com
