Jack was the son of Bertha Mae Derringer and an unknown father.( I wonder what the story behind that was). In the 1920 census, I found that on February 10, that Mae and Jack were living in Harrison County with her maternal uncle, Wilson Lehman and family. The baby was named Ernest Leon Bronson, so I assume that his father's surname was Bronson. His maternal grandparents were Milton Jacob Derringer (1875-1968) and Fannie Madora Lehman (1881-1953).
Ernest was apparently called Jack. I don't know much about him, but he must have had a difficult life as he was (according to his Ohio Certificate of Death)unfortunately born with congenital syphilis.( Again, I wonder what the story was behind this. Also why was he born in Columbus?) This disease if untreated and at this time period, they probably did not have much to treat it, leads to the degeneration of bones, the heart and nerve tissue. At the age of 9 years, Jack developed multiple cerebral thrombosises (blood clots) and for the last year of his life, he became a quadraplegic. He probably spent a lot of time in hospitals. In the 1930 Census, he was living with his Mom, step-father and step-brother near Dayton and Covington Pike in Harrison Township, Montgomery County, Ohio. Just before his death, Jack had been living at 24 Hopeland Street in Dayton. In his obituary (thank you to 1 Heavilin of Findagrave for looking this up for me), it states Jack passed away in his grandmother's, Fanny (Lehman Derringer) Murphy house at 24 Hopeland, Dayton, Ohio.
Jack passed away at the age of 18 years, 11 months and 3 days and was buried at Shiloh Springs on December 7, 1937.
The photo close-up of Jack's tombstone was taken for me by Beth Lerman of Findagrave.com. I haven't been to this cemetery yet. Jack is buried close to a great uncle John Derringer and his wife, Margaret and also John and Margaret's son, Charles Derringer.
Mae married Harley J. Weimer on November 24, 1924. Harley already had a son, Robert from a previous marriage. I doubt they had any children of their own, together.
Sometime after Jack's passing, the family appreared to have moved to Clearwater, Florida, where Mae, Harley and Robert eventually passed away and are probably buried there. Robert moved with them to Florida.
