L. L. May Dead

Saturday morning Earl May, who had been here for a few days from Scotts Bluffs, attending to the shipment of the family's household goods to that city, received the sad message that his father, L. L. May had passed away at Scotts Bluffs, at 8:30 that morning. The nature or cause of his death was not given, and so far is not as yet known to Hooper relatives. Earl immediately left for the west, being taken to Fremont by auto. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased was well known to Hooper people, this place having been the familiy's home off and on for many years, his wife being the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed [James Edgar] Nelson. During 1918 Mr. May was ice man, and last spring the family went to the north western part of the state, where Mr. May had charge of a large road construction contract. This finished, they moved a few weeks ago to Scotts Bluff, where he had secured employment in the sugar factory. From indications, his death was a sudden one, and brought a shock to his Hooper relatives and friends. Mrs. Nelson and son, Frank, left Monday noon to attend the funeral held Tuesday.

Mr. May was about 45 years of age and leaves to mourn his death, a wife and nine children, and also a mother, four sisters and three brothers. He was a member of Hooper Tent No 74, Knights of the Maccabees.

F. H. Nelson returned Friday, and Mrs. J. E. Nelson Saturday, from Scotts Bluffs, where they had been to attend the funeral of their brother and son-in-law, the late L. L. May. The cause of Mr. May's death was poison taken in a fit of despondency over ill health.
