Ray D. Sterner

SPRING GROVE - Ray D. Sterner, 85, died at 3:22 a.m. on Saturday, June 12, 2010, at Hanover Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Irene C. (Heiner) Sterner. Together they shared over 64 years of marriage.
A funeral service in celebration and thanksgiving for his life will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Irwin-Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service, PC, 175 N. Main St., Spring Grove, with Pastor Jerry Beers officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Rose Cemetery in York. Viewings will be held on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
Ray was born on January 23, 1925, in Codorus Township, and was the son of the late Jesse M. Sterner and Maggie T. (Werner) Sterner.
He worked for Bon Ton Foods in York as a Supervisor in Potato Storage for over 37 years and retired in 1982.
Ray was a member of Friendship Hose Co. Spring Grove and the Nashville Volunteer Fire Co. and Fire Police. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman and was a founder and longtime member of "Tumble In" hunting camp in Potter County.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Gloria Jean Mummert and her husband, David Lee of Thomasville; and his son, Robert E. Sterner and his wife, Robin of Spring Grove. He is also survived by three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his brother, Conrad W. Sterner of Whitehall, Md.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, Donald R. Sterner, in 2000; three sisters, Martha Bollinger, Lizzie Smith, and Evelyn Sterner; and three brothers, Floyd Sterner, Samuel Sterner, and Dean Sterner.
