Valentine Rothrock was the tenth of sixteen known children of Zachariah Rothrock (1790-1876) and his first known wife, Mary Moore (1799-1849), who married c1819 in presumably Pennsylvania. After Mary died, Zachariah remarried to Sarah Buchanan (1796-1876), but had no known additional children.

Valentine first married to Nancy (went by Nanny or Nannie) B. Rhodes (1838-1867) on 02 Apr 1863 in Pennsylvania. Valentine and Nanny were the parents of two known children, namely:

1. Margaret "Maggie" A. Rothrock (1864-1874)
2. John P. Rothrock (1867-1867)

After Nanny died, Valentine remarried to Mary A. Smith (1844-1910) in 1871 in presumably Pennsylvania. Valentine and Mary were the parents of five additional children, namely:

4. Margaret Ann Rothrock Conrad (1875-1949)
5. Jane D. Rothrock (1878-1881)
6. Charles Valentine Rothrock (1882-1950)
7. Mary Elizabeth (Elspeth?) Rothrock (1885-p1915)

In 1870 Valentine and daughter Maggie were living with Peter Rhodes (b. c1816 in PA) and Sarah Rhodes (b. c1817 in PA) along with Peter and Sarah's daughter Maggie (age 18) and a servant Mary Smith at Bratton Township, McVeytown Post Office, Mifflin County, Pennsylvania. Were Peter and Sarah the parents of Jennie? Did Valentine later marry their servant, Mary Smith? In 1880 Valentine, Mary and the three children William, Margaret and Jane were living at Mifflin County, Pennsylvania. In 1900 Valentine, Mary and daughter Mary were living at McVeytown, Mifflin County, Pennsylvania. Mary said she was the mother of six, four living. In 1910 Valentine and Mary were living alone at Mifflin County, Pennsylvania.
