Louis Charles George, age 83, died June 10, 2010, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan.

He was born January 6, 1927, in Longford, Kansas, the son of Albert and Edna (Oard) George.

He graduated from Longford High School in 1944. He joined the United States Navy on December 28, 1944 and served in the Pacific-Asiatic Theatre. He received the Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medals, and was honorably discharged as a Motor Machinist's Mate, third class on July 6, 1946. He then attended Kansas State University and received his bachelors in Education in 1950.

Mr. George taught physical education and was a coach at Weskan and Clay Center schools for several years. For many years he was the District Manager for the Prudential and National Farmers Union Insurance Companies, retiring in 1989.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Manhattan, Kansas State Alumni Association and the Vista Coffee Group. He was a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge first in Clay Center and later in Alma, the Scottish Rite and the ISIS Shrine.

Louis enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, golf and singing with his brothers. The time he loved the most was spending time with his family.

On August 20, 1950, in Clay Center, Kansas, he was married to Bonnie Jean Davis. She preceded him in death on October 26, 1999. He was also preceded in death by one brother and three sisters: Earl George, Dorothy Bennett, Laura Clark and Marjorie Malcolm.

Survivors include his two sons: Chris George and his wife Christy of Manhattan, and Tim George and his wife Tammie of St. Petersburg, FL; three brothers: Max George and his wife Dora of Colby, KS, Elvin George and his wife Ermagene of Tulsa, OK, and Don George and his wife LaVera of Wichita; eight grandchildren: Tim, Lea and Ashley George, Ryan and Taylor Kuhn, Katie Wright, Stephanie Kurzawinski, Jason and Julian Marion; four great-grandchildren: Jaxon and Jace Wright, Kailee and Felicity Kurzawinski; and his companion Patty Schrader of Manhattan.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church with Reverend R. Cam McConnell officiating. Graveside services with military honors will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Keystone Cemetery, Clay County, Kansas.
