Smokey was a cat that was part of a litter that somehow became a part of our family. Not really sure about the whole story but there were three - a black and white cat that was given to friends, I believe; a golden cat named Sugar that a neighbor girl fell in love with and eventually took home with her. The last cat was the grey one featured here. All these cats were raised around our dog Bugsy and they got along real well. Eventually we moved and the grey cat stayed with the house because the son - and one of my dad`s best friends - of the people my parents rented the house from elected to keep him. For many years they had that cat and it was an important part of their family. Being a family friend the owner would stop by the house and visit from time to time.
One of those days many years later he stopped by our house and told us the cat had not come home the day before. Several days later he had come by and told us he had went out looking for the cat and found it about a half hour later resting in the field behind his house. Evidently the kitty had decided it had been here long enough and passed away - I know its owner and friends would have liked it to be here forever. See Dean E. Bunn, the owner`s memorial under my "Good Friends" virtual cemetery.
