Cecil E. Mayo Sr., 77, died Thursday morning, Feb. 3, 2000, in Copley Hospital, Morrisville, following a brief illness. He was born in Stowe on Sept. 19, 1922, the son of the late Earl C. and Adeline (Wright) Mayo Sr. Cecil was the husband of the former Carolyn Houston, whom he married April 9, 1942. Cecil attended the Stowe schools and went on to become a lifelong farmer, owning and operating the family farm in Stowe, along with his brother. He retired in 1982, but always remained active. He and Carolyn enjoyed touring around New England, attending country fairs and taking in new sights. Cecil was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, displaying a kind and gentle nature. Besides his wife, Carolyn, he is survived by four sons and their wives, David and Judy of Hardwick, Theodore and Sandy of Eden, Cecil Jr. and Ali of Stowe, and Curtis and Gloria of Stowe; his daughter-in-law, Phyllis Mayo of Hyde Park; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; his brother, Earl Jr. of Wolcott; two sisters, Betty Cota of Spring Hill, Fla., and Marlene Levaggi of Morrisville; a special cousin, Robert Wright of Craftsbury; and nieces and nephews. Cecil was predeceased by a son, Douglas; and three great-grandchildren, Billy, Hanna and Brittney Mayo. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Puffer United Methodist Church, Morrisville, with spring interment in the Riverbank Cemetery, Stowe. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory would be appreciated to Lamoille Home Health and Hospice, 54 Farr Ave., or Copley Hospital Foundation, 528 Washington Highway, both of Morrisville, Vt. 05661. arrangements are by the White-Fiess Funeral Home, Morrisville.
