Reuben Wallace Mitchell, b. 3 Aug 1858, son of Capt. John Clinton Mitichell and Margaret Stafford. Graduated with honors at Oberlin, also later Master of Arts. Successively principal in schools in Alpha, O., Celina (1893-99); and Defiance, O (1905-1901). Moved south for better climate for wife Lura who had TB. Dean Washington College (Tenn) 1910-11; Professor in Tusculum College (Tenn) 1911-15; Supt. of Greeneville, Tenn, 1915-19. Largely responsible for building of Carnegie Library in Defiance, O. Was a Mason, Past Master, Knight Templar, one time Commander. Presbyterian elder. Lura died 25 Nov 1906. Remarried in 1915 to Eunice Moore (buried by him).
