From the Alturas NEW ERA, August 23, 1890, and August 21, 1890 MODOC INDEPENDENT:

Death has again visited our little neighborhood and has taken from our midst one of our aged and most esteemed matrons, Mrs. Florilla Glidden. Florilla Crawford was born in the State of New York, May 21, 1804; was married to Wm. Glidden Nov. 19, 1824, and died Aug 2nd 1890 at the age of 86 yrs., 2 months and 12 days. She was the mother of 10 children, seven of which are still living, and three dead. Their names are:- Mrs Mary D. Allen, wife of Dr. J.O. Allen, Ashland Oregon; John C. Glidden, deceased; Theodore P. Glidden of Colorado; Clark C. Glidden of Iowa; J. Sullivan Glidden deceased; Thos ?. Glidden of Illinois; Jefferson A. Glidden of Goose Lake, Cal; Wm. H. Glidden, deceased; Mrs. Cynthia M. Kelley, wife of Robt. Kelley, of Goose Lake, Cal; and Lydia A. Perkins, wife of John H. Perkins of Goose Lake Valley. Besides her ten children, she had 30 grand children and 13 great grandchildren. She had been a member of the Baptist Church for over half a century, and, until the beginning of this year her pew has seldom been found empty at the meeting of that church in this place. She was taken sick in the latter part of January last, and a little over six months of sickness and suffering, death came to her relief. She died at the residence of her daughters husband, John Perkins, where she had made her home for several years. She was kindly cared for during her long illness, by relatives and loving friends, and after the feeble spark had died, her remains were reverently carried by sorrowing friends, and laid to rest in the Cemetery at New Pine Creek, Oregon, the funeral procession being by far the largest seen in this valley. The funeral service was preached by the Rev. J. D. Bonner at the First Baptist Church, Goose Lake, where her many friends took a last look at the face of dear old "Grandma" as she was called. The casket and altar were beautifully decorated with flowers. After the funeral service, short eulogies were delivered by Rev's. H. M. and L. E. Henderson. Appropriate ceremonies were held at the grave. This piece was signed: A FRIEND.

And angels watch her sleep in dust
Till Jesus comes to raise the just
Then she may wake with sweet surprise
And in her saviors image rise!
