Queen of Belgium. Born Princess in Bavaria, nephew of Empress Elizabeth of Austria for paternal ancestry, she was the wife of King Albert I of Belgium. Known for having patronized several humanitarian foundations and civil, and for her commitment towards the problems of Public Health. In 1934, after the death of her husband, she assumed the title of Her Majesty Elizabeth, Queen of Belgium. She was also a patron of the arts and sciences, and continued throughout life to correspond and to help scientists, musicians and artists, including Albert Schweitzer and Albert Einstein.
