Harrell Blakeney of Thomasville passed away on Tuesday, March 9, 2004 at Mobile Infirmary. He was 83.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 11 at Pineview Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Myers and Rev. Paul Earley officiating. Burial followed at the Choctaw Corner Cemetery.
Born on June 23, 1920, Blakeney was a member of the Pineview Baptist Church. He was a representative in the Alabama State Legislature for 12 years and a former city councilman for the City of Thomasville. Blakeney was a veteran of World War II and was retired from the Alabama National Guard. He was a member of American Legion Post 112 in Thomasville and was a past master of the Nanafalia Masonic Lodge F&AM. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Alabama Sheriffs Boys and Girls Ranch.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Dillard Blakeney of Thomasville; a son, Earl Parrish of Thomasville; a daughter, Eula Thompson of Fayette; three nephews: Bill Blakeney of Sweet Water; Randy Blakeney of Tuscaloosa; and Blakeney Rogers of Fayetteville, Ga.
Pallbearers were Steve Green, Tom Rogers, Alan Rogers, Marshall Parten, Blake Thompson and Devain Knight. Honorary pallbearers were the Men's Adult II Sunday School Class, J.D. Flowers, Coleman Knight and Jerry Harrington.
O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home of Thomasville handled the arrangements.
