Obituary for his wife

Rosa Lea Baucum
ODESSA Rosa Lea Baucum Granny Rose, beloved mother and grandmother,
went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, March 19, 2003, at the age
of 83 while being cared for in Corpus Christi at her sons residence.
Rosa was a longtime resident of Odessa and a member of Sherwood
Baptist Church where she attended the Ladies One Sunday School Class
and the Ladies Quilting Circle, both of which she enjoyed
tremendously. She was a volunteer and past board member for West Texas
Opportunities. She was a feisty lady with many talents and abilities
who lived life to the fullest. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, arts and
crafts, cooking, gardening, decorating, fishing, and spending time
with her family and friends. She had a heart for children and was
Granny Rose to many.
She was born to Gregory Hernandez and Evelyn Richardson Hernandez on
September 4, 1919, in Wapanucka, Okla. She married Robert Gable in
1934 and had three sons. She later married Virgil P. John Baucum in
1962.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Maggie; her
stepfather, Ed Turner; her husband, Virgil Baucum; her brother,
Sylvester Hernandez; her oldest son, Robert Edward Bob Gable; and her
brothers, Paul Turner and Clyde Turner.
She is survived by two sons, Billy Joe Gable and wife, Sue, of Liberty
Hill, Texas, and Jimmy Leon Gable and wife, LaJuana, of Corpus
Christi, Texas; and one brother, Homer Turner of Cross Plains, Texas.
She is also survived by her six grandchildren, Kelly Kullenberg of
Cedar Park, Stacey Herzog and husband, Ronnie, of Leander, Tammy
Hendricks and husband, Steve, of Odessa, Greg Gable of Ft. Worth,
Donna James of Corpus Christi, and Jay Gable and wife, Jill, of San
Antonio; her six great grandchildren, Lauren Kullenberg, Bobby Ed
Herzog, Tyler Hendricks, Holly Hendricks, Jordan James and Chelsea
James; numerous nieces and nephews; and her daughters-in-law, Pat
Gable and Gail Pool.
Rosa was an example of perseverance, strength and independence to her
children and grandchildren. She had a special relationship with each
child, grandchild and great-grandchild individually. Her family was
the joy of her life and she worked hard to build great memories. She
was greatly loved and will be sorely missed on this earth, but we have
hope and great joy in knowing that this is not the end and we will see
her again soon!
Visitation will be held at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Friday, March
21, 2003, from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held on
Saturday, March 22, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Sherwood Baptist Church with
Rev. Tom Hiser officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial
Gardens. Arrangements are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
