FRIDAY, MARCH 18, 1898

Death of Mrs. Celeta Medlin

The subject of this obituary was born in Madison County, Tennessee, January 17, 1838, and died in Lampasas, Texas, March 11, 1898, at 9:30 o'clock a.m. after a long and painful illness. She had been a great sufferer and helpless invalid for the past four years.

Her maiden name was Celeta Wright, and she was married to M. H. Medlin in the year 1851. Six children were born of this union, two of whom died in infancy. The surviving children are: Mrs. J. P. Baugh, of Heidenheimer, Bell County, Mrs. B. W. Means, who lives in McAnelly's Bend, this county, Mrs. Georgie Carter, of Lampasas, and one son Columbus Medlin, who resides in Old Mexico.

The family migrated to Texas in 1854 and to Lampasas County in 1874, and in 1892 came to the town of Lampasas for the benefit of the medicinal waters, and have since resided here.

Mrs. Medlin joined the Baptist church when 18 years old and lived a consistent Christian life all her days. Her mission on earth was to succor and comfort the sick and distressed, and she died in the full triumph of a blessed hereafter. Although a great sufferer, the final dissolution came calmly and peacefully in the presence of her husband and daughter, Mrs. Carter. Every attention that love and skill could prompt was bestowed, but without avail.

The funeral took place Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, and amid the tears of the stricken ones and many mourning friends the body was laid to rest in the city cemetery, Rev. W. H. McGee performing the last sad rites.
