Irene Elizabeth Henline, 89, of Fort Wayne, Indiana died peacefully in her sleep Saturday August 21, 2010 at 9:10 p.m. from complications resulting from bi-lateral pneumonia. She was residing at Renaissance Village in Fort Wayne at the time of her death.

Born Irene Elizabeth Lewis -- May 11, 1921 to Autie H.Lewis, Sr. and Beatrice Black in Fairbury, Illinois. Irene was preceded in death by brothers Waldo Emerson and Harold Francis Lewis and is survived by brother Autie Lewis, Jr. of Ossian, Indiana

Irene's first husband was Kenneth Quisenberry (deceased). This union was blessed with two children. Irene was preceded in death by her daughter Carol (Quisenberry) Thiele/Byrt and is survived by her son Larry (Kay) Quisenberry of Spring Hill Florida.

Irene was also the widow of Maurice C. Henline and is survived by their son Jan M. (Rose) Henline of Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Irene remarried later in life and is preceded in death by her third husband, Ralph Jackemeyer.

Irene is also survived by Grandchildren Greg (Deb) and Jeff (Lori) Thiele, Kim (Andy) Uhl, Cindy (Quisenberry) Lanciault, Scott and John (Stacey) Quisenberry, and Jennifer L. Henline.

Irene was blessed with eight great grandchildren. Zachary and Gavin Thiele, Jamie Lanciault, Pierce and Austin Uhl, Bailey, Jacob and Justin Quisenberry.

Irene began her life on the family farm in Illinois working on the farm, keeping house, and cooking for the family. Irene graduated from Sibley High School in 1939 and was excited to be able to travel back to Sibley in 2002 to attend the 60th reunion of her high school class and visit her childhood home.

During her life, Irene's main focus was raising children and keeping house but she also worked outside the home doing secretarial and office work at many places including Hower Tool in Ossian, Indiana and the S. S. Kresge Company in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Irene was also the President of the Psi Iota Xi sorority in Ossian.

Irene enjoyed playing golf and bowling but neither held her interest more than the sport of shopping and hunting for bargains. Irene spent many hours searching through clearance racks to find current fashions at bargain prices. Irene was always known for her brilliant red hair and for always wearing the latest fashions adorned with 'just right' accessories.

In 1996, Irene was given the horrible news that she had Lung Cancer and was given a 5% chance of survival. Thanks to the outstanding efforts of Drs. Meyer and Nattam and all the staff at Fort Wayne Oncology, Irene beat the odds and after 14 years was still in complete remission.

Irene was a member at Aldersgate Methodist Church in Fort Wayne and truly enjoyed their modern approach to spreading the gospel, the children's programs, and especially the music.

A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held at Lighted Gardens Reception Hall in Ossian Indiana Sunday, September 12, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. with a Memorial Service at 2:00 p.m.

Preferred memorials are to Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana and Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home.

Interment will be at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Ossian, Indiana.
