Isaac Green Cheves was the son of Greaf Cheves and Betsy Parker. He was born in Crawford County, Georgia. He came to Macon County with his wife Ann Elizabeth McCowen in 1834 and settled first in the upper part of the county where he had drawn land lots. He then bought the John Young Place and later he bought the place from Armstrong which has since been known as the "Cheves" place.

Macon County was formed in 1837 from Houston and Marion Counties.

Isaac and Ann were married 6 November 1834. They had ten children:
1) Sarah Anna Cheves - Ansley, b. 1835.
2) Thomas Jefferson Cheves, b. 1837.
3) Adoniram Judson Cheves, b. 1839.
4) Alva Curtis Cheves, b. 2 Oct 1843.
5) Davis McCowen Cheves, b. 1848.
6) Oliver Cromwell Cheves, b. 1850.
7) Eudalia Elizabeth Cheves - Jackson, b. 1852.
8) Sylvanas Landrum Cheves, b. 1852.
9) Bertha Ione "Tommie" Cheves - Lewis, b. 1856.
10) Susan "Sookie" Gabrella Cheves, b. 1858
