It is not known exactly how long the stores were in business, but at least from 1922 - 1944. Ira hired several of his nephews to work in his stores.
He never married or fathered any children.
One of his nephew, Austin Ira Keys (given the middle name of Ira in honor of his uncle), worked in the Clarksburg store for quite some time. Austin was a devoted nephew who loved and respected his Uncle Ira so much that he named his own son, Austin Ira Jr. and Austin Sr's other son gave one of his son's the middle name of Ira (making 3 generations named after Ira B. Keys).
Austin Ira Keys Sr. also purchased and installed the gravestone for his Uncle Ira.
