Too, a stone reading: Joseph Gray, d. 4-28-1843, 72 years" was once found, but when looking for it a second time was not to be found. Possibly name and date was miscopied. from Early Settlers of Montgomery County 1817-1840 volume II pg 109 as transcribed by Walter R. Sanders, summer 1951.
In 1854 after marrying Julia Ann Porter, James' son YOUNG GRAY with his new wife, departed by covered wagon to El Dorado County, California, presumably for the recent gold rush. He was accompanied by his brothers, ARCHIBALD and WILLIAM H. GRAY, and two sisters, AMANDA F. and POLLY GRAY. ALLEN TAYLOR GRAY took his wife Phebe Peck Gray also.
