The family story I've been told is that the men who killed him were a group of bushwhackers who were in no way associated with the Union Army. The group of men kidnapped his son Columbus, known to my family as 'Uncle Lum', at the same time and were going to kill him, too, but one of them talked the rest out of it.

Walker was a Colonel in the Confederate Army. He was in Thomas' Confederate Legion of Cherokee Indians and Mountaineers. Murdered at his home on Jan 3, 1864 by a U S Army soldier assassin.

Spouse was Elmira Mary Taylor. They were married on Feb 7, 1841.
Their children were:
Josephine B: 1844
America M B: 1845

Mary N B: 1847
William C Jr. B: 1849
Augusta B: 1851
Monroe B: 1856
James B: 1858
Ellen B: 1861
