COBDEN - Mr. Paul L. Spiller, 88, of Cobden, died at 12:27 p.m. Sunday, June 6, 2010, at his home.
He was born July 14, 1921 in Cobden, the son of Claud and Lela Mae Lasley Spiller.
He married Margaret Ann Brust on Jan. 31, 1948 in Cobden; she preceded him in death Aug. 24, 1989.
He then married Joann Dover on Feb. 15, 1991 in Jonesboro.
Paul is survived by his wife, Joann Spiller of Cobden; six children, Paul Michael (Nancy) Spiller of Carter-ville, Janna Kasper of Jonesboro, Catherine (Lonnie) Hinton of Vienna, James Dover of Cowden, Anna Dover of Anna and Andy Dover of Jonesboro; 10 grandchildren, Robin Hampton, Louis Tripp, Russell Tripp, Bradley Womack, Audrey Hinton, Joeseph Rulevish, Trenton Rulevish, Calvin Smith, Chloe Paige Dover and Kylie Elizabeth Dover; six great-grandchildren, Chelsie and Trevor Coulter, Elijah and Lillie Tripp and Katlin and Lucas Womack; and other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Margaret Spiller; two brothers, Orbie Leon "Doe" Spiller and Lawrence "Pee Wee" Spiller; one sister, Linda Sue Stagner; and one grandson, Paul Michael Spiller Jr.
Paul retired as a bridge and building foreman with Illinois Central Railroad, where he worked for more than 33 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a lifetime member of VWF Carroll P. Foster Post 3455 of Anna, a member of the Anna Moose Lodge 1346, the Brotherhood of Maintenance Way and a charter member of the Cobden Fire Dept for 32 years. Paul enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and gar-dening, but his favorite pastime was being with family and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Paul L. Spiller will be at 1 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2010, in Rendleman and Hileman Fu-neral Home in Cobden, with the Rev. Clifford Heil officiating. Interment will be in Cobden Cemetery, with military honors at the graveside by VFW Carroll P. Foster Post 3455 of Anna and Illinois National Guard Honors Team. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
