William Brooks Field was a son of Robert Field (22 Nov. 1797-30 Aug. 1850) and his wife Charlotte Marie Celeste Brooks (13 Oct. 1806-31 May 1881). His paternal grandparents were Robert Field and his wife Abigail Stockton (daughter of of Richard Stockton of New Jersey, a Signer of the Declaration of Independence); and his maternal grandparents were William Brooks and his wife Mary Elizabeth Celeste Hutchins (daughter of Col. Anthony Hutchins of Saluda, SC). William had six siblings: Annis Elizabeth b- 24 Jan 1828, Julia Field b- 1830, Hannah B, Charlotte b- 10 Nov 1837, Robert b- 19 Aug 1842, Mary Dunbar b- 2 May 1849.


William married Medora Cotten (8 April 1846-19 Oct. 1919), a daughter of John Alexander Cotten and his wife Sarah Elizabeth Sorsby, of Edwards, Hines County, Miss. William and Medora had five children: William Brooks Field (22 March 1866-1944), Robert Field (12 April 1868-26 Nov. 1935, m. Mary Frances Abrams, went to Atlanta), Richard Stockton Field (14 Aug. 1871-?, m. Ollie Enold Williams), Jesse Cadmus Field (16 March 1874-1926, went to Ohio), and Charlotte Brooks Field (24 July 1877-12 Sept. 1917, m. William McCaleb Darden).
