One sister and two brothers preceded him in death. His brother, John, of Casey, passed away just six weeks to the day.
When he was four years old his parents moved to Clark County, Illinois, settling south of Martinsville, in which vicinity he grew to manhood and resided for many years.
On September 28, 1873, he was united in marriage to Mary E. Hills, who preceded him in death, February 1, 1910. To this union were born fifteen children, eight of whom are living: John and Mrs. Ruth Craig, of Martinsville; William H., Edgar, Elmer and Mrs. Amy Cribelar, of Casey; May, of Rantoul, Ill., and Mrs. Rosa Degener, of Milan, Ind.
On April 29, 1912, he was united in marriage to Rebecca Grant, who departed this life March 24, 1923.
In October 1922, he removed to a farm near Casey, where he resided until his death.
Besides the eight children he leaves to mourn their loss, twenty-five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
