W.D. RALSTON IS DEAD
Substantial Citizen And Retired Farmer Died Last Night At 9:30 O'Clock - Had Been Ill For Long Time. Had Much Civic Pride.
William Dr. Ralston, 1131 Charles Street, died last evening at 9:30 o'clock after a long and lingering illness of pernicious anemia. The wife, three children, and several sisters survive.
Mr. Ralston was born in Cincinnati, in 1841. He came west and farmed in Guilford township for 18 years. Twenty-three years ago he retired and came to Rockford to live. His home was on Market street until 12 years ago when he moved to Charles street. Since he came to this city he acquired much valuable property. He owned the building occupied by the Marsh undertaking establishment on South First street, the Giggey building his home and a large flat building on Charles street. Possessed of great love for the city he was always interested in Rockford and its growth. He was known to his many friends as a man with great civic pride.
The wife and three children, William, Katharine and Andrew are left. Miss Mary Ralston and Mrs. Margaret Brown of Rockford; Mrs. Helen Goff of Iowa and Mrs. Jane Barth of Beloit are sisters..
The funeral services will be held at 9:30 o'clock Friday morning from the home Rev. D.E. Williamson officiating. Interment will be in the Willow Creek cemetery at Argyle. It is requested that no flowers be sent.
Mr. Ralston had been ill for two years. For over a year he had been confined to his chair. He was a member of the First Presbyterian church.
