On Monday night, October 17, 1910 the angel of death summoned the spirit of Mrs. Mary A. Grove, widow of the late John A. Grove from this earth to dwell forever with the Lord in realms of eternal bliss. Mrs. Grove had been ill for sometime and owing to her advanced age she was quite frail and the end was not unexpected. She was aged 86 years, 4 months and 1 day and for about 70 years of her life she lived on the same farm where she died. She was converted early in life and for 70 years was a consistent member of the Methodist Episcopal church. She believed thoroughly in the "old time religion" and received much comfort throughout her long life by reason of this and it was her great delight to frequently commune with her Savior.
The funeral was conducted at Friendship United Brethren Church after brief services at the house, by the Rev. S. D. Skelton who delivered very comforting and able sermon from Philippians 3-21: "Who shall change our vile body that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself."
Rev. John Moon, a local minister, and Rev. L. B. Wissinger of the Evangelical church, assisted in the services. The church was filled with many sympathetic friends and many were not able to get in, who wished to pay the last tribute of respect to the memory of a good woman, many of whom she had at sometime ministered unto their bodily and spiritual needs.
The remains were laid to rest in the old Friendship graveyard there to await the resurrection morning.
Mrs. Grove was the mother of nine children, five of whom survive her--Messrs. J. W. and S. U. Grove, Mrs. G. F. Weber, Mrs. S. B. Pentoney and Miss Louise Grove.
