In October of 1901, Henry married Violet Hemsley. Together, Henry and Violet had four children: Henry (born 1902), Melba (born 1905), Philip (born 1906), and Phoebe (born 1908).

He was a member the Bricklayers union (No. 1) and the Knights of Pythias (Rocky Mountain Lodge No. 3).

Around 12:30 AM on January 12, 1909, Henry was with his friend Edward Livingston, having spent the evening at a meeting for the Bricklayers' Union. The two went to board a Sugar House street car. It was still moving as Henry went to get on, and he slipped on the icy street, sending him directly into the path of the street car. Consequently, he was hit and killed. Henry was thirty-two years old.

Henry was buried in the Salt Lake City cemetery. Over 600 people attended his funeral, including the entire Bricklayers union and many Knights of Pythias who were not even part of Henry's lodge.
