Fred Hessler, 65, R.R.5, Greensburg, died this morning at 4:55 a.m. in the Decatur County Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Hessler was born Oct. 25, 1917, in Letts, the son of Jacob and Nellie Purvis Hessler. He was reared by foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Parker, and spent his life in Letts, where he was a self-employed carpenter.

He was a member of the Letts United Methodist Church and the Loyal Workers Sunday School class. He served four years in World War II with the army, in construction engineering. He was married to his wife Martha Feb. 15, 1948, in Letts, and she survives, with a son, Davis Hobbs, who resides in Bartholomew County; a daughter-in-law, Donna Hobbs, Bartholomew County, two grandchildren: Dixie and David Hobbs, and two half-brothers, Jack and Ralph Hessler, both of Greensburg.

He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.

The services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, at the Bass Funeral Home in Westport, with the Rev. Patrick Walden of the Letts United Methodist Church officiating, and with burial in the Mt. Aerie Cemetery in Letts. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday.
