Sgt. Brandon C. Bury, 26, of Kingwood, Texas died June 6 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif. Brandon served two tours of duty in Iraq and actually volunteered to go back to the region, a fact his friends call typical for the young man committed to serve. An infantry assaultman, he had deployed to Iraq in 2005 and 2007. His military awards and decorations include the Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. He leaves behind his wife, Heather, and their two young sons. He is also survived by his parents, Brian and Terry, who now live in Dallas, and two brothers, Brian and Thomas.
