Born in 1835. He was 46 when he died Aug 8, 1881.

Enlisted as a Corporal in Company G, 1st Regiment United States Sharpshooters on Sept. 2, 1861 from Union, Wisconsin (near Evansville, Rock County). He was invalided out effective November 15, 1863 by General Order #365, and transferred to the Veteran Reserve Corps (Invalid Corps).

In 1862 he had been transported from Harrison's Landing, a nearly flat flood plain that rose only a few feet above the James River at Berekely Plantation, Charles City VA, to Philadelphia on August 7th, 1862 on the C. Vanderbilt, a Hudson River steamer (side wheeler) owned by Cornelius Vanderbilt with hundreds of other Soldiers also suffering from Typhoid Fever, as reported by the New York Times on August 9th, 1862. This may have contributed to his transfer the next year.
